Overview

Folder Sync automatically syncs files from your computer's folders to your Razuna workspaces. Any files you add, modify, or delete in a synced folder will automatically be uploaded to Razuna.

Getting Started

Opening Folder Sync

There are two ways to access Folder Sync:

1. Sync Icon (when viewing a folder in Razuna):
   • Look for the sync icon (⟲) in the top toolbar
   • Click it to open the Folder Sync panel
2. Menu Bar:
   • Click Razuna Desktop in the menu bar
   • Select Folder Sync...
   • Or use keyboard shortcut: Cmd+Shift+S (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows)

Adding a Sync Folder

Step 1: Open Folder Sync Panel

Click the sync icon or use the menu to open the Folder Sync panel.

Step 2: Click "Add Folder"

Click the "Add Folder" button at the top of the panel.

Step 3: Configure Your Sync Folder

A dialog will appear with the following options:

Local Folder

• Click "Browse..." to select the folder on your computer
• This folder and all its contents will be synced to Razuna

Razuna Workspace

• Select the workspace where files should be uploaded
• Dropdown shows all your available workspaces

Target Folder

• Select the destination folder within the workspace
• Dropdown shows folders in the selected workspace
• Files will be uploaded to this folder (and subfolders if enabled)

Sync Options

Auto Sync

• ☑️ Enabled (default): Files sync automatically when changed
• ☐ Disabled: Manual sync only (click "Sync Now" button)

Parse Subfolders

• ☑️ Enabled (default): Maintains folder structure in Razuna
• ☐ Disabled: All files uploaded to target folder (no subfolders)

Step 4: Save

Click "Add Folder" to start syncing immediately.

Managing Sync Folders

Viewing Sync Status

The Folder Sync panel shows all your configured folders with:

• Folder name - Local folder path
• Status - Current sync state:
  • 🟢 Active - Watching for changes
  • 🟡 Syncing - Currently uploading files
  • 🔴 Paused - Not syncing
  • ⚠️ Error - Problem occurred
• Statistics:
  • Files uploaded
  • Total size uploaded
  • Upload speed (when active)
  • Last sync time

Control Buttons

For each folder, you can:

• ⏸️ Pause/▶️ Resume - Stop or start automatic syncing
• 🔄 Sync Now - Manually trigger sync (even if auto-sync is off)
• ⚙️ Settings - Modify folder configuration
• 🗑️ Remove - Stop syncing and remove from list

Global Settings

Click the ⚙️ Settings icon in the Folder Sync panel to access global settings.

Bandwidth Limiting

Control upload speed to preserve network performance for other applications.

Options:

• Unlimited (default) - Use full available bandwidth
• Custom limit - Set maximum upload speed in MB/s

When to use:

• During video calls or streaming
• When other users share your network
• To prevent network congestion

Example settings:

• 5 MB/s - Good for home connections (40 Mbps upload)
• 10 MB/s - Good for fast connections (100+ Mbps upload)
• 1 MB/s - Conservative limit for shared networks

Upload Scheduling

Set specific hours when uploads are allowed.

Options:

• Disabled (default) - Upload anytime
• Enabled - Set start and end hours

When to use:

• Upload during off-peak hours (e.g., midnight to 6am)
• Avoid uploading during business hours
• Respect bandwidth caps or time-based billing

Example schedules:

• Night uploads: 23:00 to 07:00 (11 PM to 7 AM)
• Business hours only: 09:00 to 17:00 (9 AM to 5 PM)
• Weekend uploads: Enable only on Sat/Sun (requires custom setup)

How Sync Works

Smart File Detection

Folder Sync uses intelligent file detection:

1. Checksum comparison - Uses xxHash for fast file comparison
2. Only uploads changes - Skips files already in Razuna
3. Stability detection - Waits for files to finish writing before uploading
4. Automatic retry - Failed uploads retry up to 3 times

What Gets Synced

Automatically synced:

• ✅ New files added to folder
• ✅ Modified files (detected by checksum)
• ✅ Files in subfolders (if enabled)

Not synced:

• ❌ Deleted files (not removed from Razuna)
• ❌ Hidden files (starting with .)
• ❌ System files (.DS_Store, Thumbs.db, etc.)
• ❌ Temporary files (.tmp, .temp, etc.)

Upload Queue

Files are uploaded in order with:

• 3 parallel uploads (default)
• Priority queue - Manual "Sync Now" goes first
• Large file streaming - Memory-efficient uploads
• Automatic retry - 3 attempts with exponential backoff

Monitoring & Statistics

Real-time Progress

While syncing, you'll see:

• Current file being uploaded
• Progress bar with percentage
• Upload speed in MB/s
• Time remaining estimate

Folder Statistics

For each sync folder:

• Total files uploaded
• Total size uploaded
• Last sync time
• Success/failure counts

Global Statistics

Overall sync performance:

• Active uploads count
• Queue size (pending uploads)
• Total bandwidth usage
• Errors requiring attention

Performance Optimization

For many small files:

• Keep default settings (3 parallel uploads)
• No bandwidth limit needed

For large files:

• Enable bandwidth limiting (preserve network)
• Enable upload scheduling (overnight uploads)
• Consider fewer parallel folders

For mixed content:

• Use moderate bandwidth limit (5-10 MB/s)
• Schedule heavy uploads during off-hours
• Monitor statistics to adjust

Storage Management

Monitor your Razuna storage:

• Check workspace storage limits
• Archive or delete old files
• Use Razuna's organization features

Avoid sync loops:

• Don't sync Razuna download folders
• Don't create circular sync relationships
• Keep sync folders separate from each other

Advanced Features

Manual Sync Mode

Disable auto-sync for folders you want to sync on-demand:

1. Edit folder settings
2. Uncheck "Auto Sync"
3. Click "Sync Now" when ready to upload

• Batch uploads at specific times
• Quality check before upload
• Controlled sync for large folders

Multiple Workspaces

Sync different folders to different workspaces:

/Work/Projects → Work Workspace

Scenario 1: Preserve Structure (default)

• Enable "Parse Subfolders"
• Maintains exact folder hierarchy in Razuna

Scenario 2: Flatten Files

• Disable "Parse Subfolders"
• All files go to target folder regardless of local structure

FAQ

Q: Does Folder Sync work when the app is closed?

A: No, Razuna Desktop must be running for sync to work. Files will sync automatically when you open the app.

Q: Can I sync the same folder to multiple Razuna folders?

A: No, each local folder can only sync to one Razuna folder. You can create multiple sync folders to different destinations.

Q: What happens if I delete a file from my local folder?

A: The file remains in Razuna. Folder Sync only uploads new/modified files, it doesn't delete files from Razuna.

Q: Can I sync files from Razuna to my computer?

A: Not yet. Folder Sync currently only supports one-way sync (local → Razuna). Two-way sync may be added in future versions.

Q: How much space does Folder Sync use on my computer?

A: Very little. Folder Sync only stores a small database (~1-5 MB) to track file states. It doesn't duplicate your files.

Q: Can I pause all sync folders at once?

A: Yes, use the global pause button at the top of the Folder Sync panel to pause/resume all folders.

Q: What happens during network interruptions?

A: Uploads automatically pause and retry when the network is restored (up to 3 attempts). Partial uploads resume from where they stopped.

Q: Is my upload data encrypted?

A: Yes, all uploads use HTTPS encryption, the same as the Razuna web interface.

Q: Can I see the upload history?

A: Yes, statistics show total uploads, last sync time, and success/failure counts for each folder.

Q: How do I stop syncing a folder permanently?

A: Click the remove (🗑️) button on the folder. This stops watching the folder and removes it from the list. Your files remain in Razuna.
